Travelers also walked along it, whom the monster also wanted to catch in its nets, but could not do this: the trap only hit the wall and immediately bounced back.

Gabriel remembered the words from the akathist, where the rock is associated with an indestructible wall. We turn to holy images most often in a difficult moment in the hope of help. Many people receive support from above according to their faith, as evidenced by numerous miracles in Orthodoxy. The image of the Blessed Virgin Mary "Indestructible Wall" is the most revered among Orthodox believers, and it is also a magnificent work of art.

The history of the appearance of the image

According to legend, the image of the "Indestructible Wall" was seen in a dream by the monk Gabriel, who lives in the Savior-Eleazar desert. The vision was connected with a large beautiful city, to the gates of which two paths led. One road is wide, easy, straight, the other is dangerous, winding. Of course, most of the people walking into the city chose a direct convenient road, but at the end of the path they fell into the giant's net. Only lone travelers, fearlessly walking along the difficult path, reached their goal and reached the city unharmed.

On this difficult path, the Most Holy One protected the travelers from the giant with an indestructible wall. The elder also went on a difficult path. Whenever the whistling of the giant's nets was heard over his head, he repeated the prayer: "Rejoice, Indestructible Wall of the Kingdom." The monk reached the city, where he saw beautiful gardens blooming. So the Mother of God herself pointed to the acquisition of the holy image, protecting the elder and other pilgrims with an impregnable wall.

Finding an image

The "Indestructible Wall" became known recently - at the end of the 20th century. It was a difficult time when churches in the Soviet Union were closed everywhere, and faith in God was not encouraged by the state. A certain priest Pavel Ryabykh was engaged in the restoration of the Church of the Nativity of Christ (Astrakhan region, the village of Nikolskoye, 1972). Later, the archpriest accepted the schema and became shiigumen Paisios. Going around the houses, the priest found, among other images, the icon "Indestructible Wall". It was kept by the Orthodox Maria Anshakova, who prayed before the icon of the Mother of God every day.

The dilapidated shrine was in the church practically forgotten by everyone for three decades. In 2001, a resident of the village of Zelenoye Zaimishche A. Ya. Eremeeva, praying to the Mother of God, had a vision. The Virgin Mary ordered the old woman, asking for better eyesight, to pray to the "Indestructible Wall", located in the Church of the Nativity. Agrippina Yakovlevna told the priest about her vision, after which the shrine was sent for restoration. After the restoration work began, an inscription was found on the reverse side. According to the inscription, the image was painted for the Resurrection-Mironositsky Monastery, and consecrated by John of Kronstadt (1906).

In the Cathedral of Hagia Sophia in Kyiv, for 800 years, the mosaic image of the Mother of God was kept almost in its original form, not subject to the influence of time, disasters, and numerous fires. Therefore, Christians all over the world believed in the inviolability of this holy image.

In the story of Archpriest N. Agafonov “The Indestructible Wall”, the miracles that the Mother of God showed were described in detail. Many soldiers who survived after the Great Patriotic War claimed that during the harsh battle they saw a huge image of the Virgin Mary with her hands raised, facing the enemy. With her prayer before the Almighty, the Heavenly Queen protected the Soviet soldiers. Of course, at the time they didn't know who they were seeing.

An Orthodox person constantly needs spiritual support, consolation, a sense of security. That is why, for more than a thousand years that have passed since the Baptism of Russia, Orthodox Christians have placed great hopes on the miraculous images and faces of Orthodox saints, especially on the image of the Most Holy Theotokos, a rather highly revered and important shrine of the Orthodox world.

Tradition of the Russian land about the Orthodox shrine

One of the most revered faces among believers is the icon of the Mother of God "Indestructible Wall". The existing story about the glorification of the shrine among believers tells that the root cause of its popularity was the vision of a monk living in the Savior-Eleazar desert. The elder saw in a dream a beautiful city, to which two paths led: one wide and easy, the other winding and almost inconspicuous from the side. The bulk of those who wanted to get into the city climbed along a wide road, where they were immediately captured by a huge giant with his net. A small and difficult-looking road, moreover, climbed a steep wall around a magical city. However, looking more closely, the elder realized that it was along this path that rare travelers pass into the city and remain unharmed. The giant's network could not reach them, while whistling bouncing off the wall erected by the Most Holy Theotokos. Following this road, the monk found himself in a wonderful and fragrant city.

The legend of the land of Kyiv about the miraculous protector

The icon "Indestructible Wall" is called that way in the world of Orthodoxy for a reason. A Christian can see it in the city of Kyiv by visiting St. Sophia Cathedral. The mosaic icon impresses with its size: it is a six-meter image located on the inner surface of the dome. For nine hundred years, the shrine was unharmed to the world, while Kyiv was repeatedly destroyed during this time, along with the cathedral itself. That is why the name "Indestructible Wall" became relevant for such a shrine. The icon shows the parishioners standing in full growth praying Mother of God. The legend of the city of Kyiv says that the city will be unharmed while the Mother of God prays over it.

The new birth of the miraculous image

"Indestructible Wall" - an icon painted from another image of the Mother of God, located in Constantinople. The image in Kyiv, in turn, also became the starting point for the icon painted for the Resurrection-Myronositskaya monastery. For a long time this list was unknown; it appeared to the world only in the 60s of the twentieth century in the village of Nikolskoye. Since the beginning of the new millennium, the icon "Indestructible Wall" has again begun to show its miraculous powers to believers.

Archival data testify that the All-Russian prayer book John of Kronstadt consecrated this icon. This event happened at the beginning of the twentieth century, at the time the icon was in the holy monastery. Then, after the looting and desecration of the monastery during the era of atheism, the image was in the house of a pious parishioner, who transferred it to the temple. Over the past fifteen years, the icon of the Mother of God "Indestructible Wall" has shown the world many miracles and inexplicable phenomena. Several more lists from the "Indestructible Wall" are known, you can see them in Moscow churches. One of the famous shrines of the city of Kaliningrad has also become the "Indestructible Wall". The shrine meets parishioners in the Cathedral. A large number of those who ask are constantly flocking to it, since it is believed that a prayer said in front of this image of the Mother of God will certainly be heard, and it will be given to the supplicant.

"Salvation from troubles with a holy prayer book"

The unearthly power of the strong Orthodox shrine "Indestructible Wall" was described by eyewitnesses and witnesses already in the last century. So, when defending the Russian land from the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War, soldiers testified many times that they saw a woman not far from places that were especially bloody battles. She stood facing the German dispositions, her hands raised to the sky.

The Orthodox writer Nikolai Agafonov described the case of recognizing in this woman an image from the icon "Indestructible Wall". A front-line soldier, having gone through bloody battles in the war and having seen this praying woman more than once, having entered the temple at the end of the war in order to put a candle for the repose of the dead comrades and seeing the icon “Indestructible Wall”, he immediately recognized the face of the Virgin depicted on it and understood who was praying for Russian soldiers.

Protective power icons

It is generally accepted that the "Indestructible Wall" is an icon, the meaning of which for believers is primarily in protective power. It is known that the image of the Holy Mother of God on this icon is called, through the prayers of the Orthodox, to protect against negative events. First of all, given the history of the miracles revealed to the world, before the icon they ask for peace on the Russian land, for protection from invasions and aggression. Many Orthodox Christians prefer to have a home list of the “Indestructible Wall” image at home. Before the home icon, it is customary to ask for the good intentions of all those who visit the house, the protection of those living in it from fires, thieves, unkind people. At the same time, it is necessary to have the correct information about where to hang the “Indestructible Wall” icon in your home. It is believed that the place of this icon is opposite the front door. Thus, the Holy Virgin looks at everyone who enters the house. It is generally accepted that those who came with evil intent will not be able to stay in the house for a long time under the all-seeing gaze of the intercessor, and will rush to leave it.

"And the prayers will be rewarded"

There is a lot of modern evidence that the "Indestructible Wall" is an icon that gives not only protection to people, but also heals from serious illnesses. The first miraculous healing of the twenty-first century was the healing by prayer in front of the icon of the coming blindness of a believing parishioner. Since that time, with prayers for healing and recovery, they are increasingly turning to the heavenly patroness, whose image helps and protects. In the breviary, a believing Christian will find prayers that must be said before this holy image.

Prayer in front of the "Indestructible Wall" should be daily in those houses where there is such a home icon. There are two prayers, quite simple in pronunciation, small in text, but deep enough in content. Do not forget to also pronounce the Troparion, Tone 4, and the Other Troparion, Tone 4. Before leaving the house, you should pray especially carefully, understanding and accepting with your soul the fact that the “Indestructible Wall” icon will protect and guard the house in the absence of the owners. The prayer that is said before leaving the dwelling is taken from the breviary, one of two proposed. At the end of the prayer, you should ask the intercessor in your own words to take the dwelling under protection.

There are several meanings for the image name. The first belongs to the akathist. It was from here that the name of the icon “Indestructible Wall” came from, which began to be understood literally. The Mother of God, according to Christians, is the protector, patroness and keeper.

The second meaning is related to vision. One day, the wandering elder Gabriel dreamed of a rich city that stands on a high hill. The old man was on his way. The road was flat and spacious, but on it sat a huge giant who caught people with a net and took them into slavery. The elder wanted to avoid such a fate. Not far off, he saw a narrow path that ran under a rock that looked like a wall. The giant's chain could not reach her. Then Gabriel recognized the lines from the same akathist and decided that the Mother of God herself protected the people there. The elder walked along the path and finally reached a rich city, where he told everyone about the "Indestructible Wall".

There are several meanings for the name of the image

It is believed that the icon "Indestructible Wall" is not quite the original. Its prototype is the Blachernae Icon of the Mother of God, painted according to legend by the Evangelist Luke himself. It was kept in Constantinople for a long time. The icon of the Mother of God and the intercessor was brought to Kievan Rus as a copy. Later, Russian icon painters began to create lists that spread throughout the territory of our state. It is known that the original, which was kept in Byzantium, was brought as a gift to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. Now this icon is in the Kremlin.

The meaning of the image

Its meaning is clear from the very name of the icon. The Mother of God on this icon is a protector, intercessor and patroness. Its first image in the form of a mosaic remains for more than 1000 years on the wall of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. Despite the time, each of its pieces is clearly distinguished, of which, by the way, there are more than 170. It is interesting that the cathedral itself was very badly damaged over time. Often the temple was destroyed almost completely, but the part where the "Indestructible Wall" was depicted always remained intact. They say that Kyiv will not fall as long as it is protected by the ancient mosaic of the Mother of God “Indestructible Wall”.

What to pray for

The icon is called "Indestructible Wall". This name also defines her powers. You can pray to this image in such cases:

  • long departure from home, trip and so on;

Where to place the icon in the house

It's believed that the best way appeal to the icon "Indestructible Wall" is a visit to the Hagia Sophia in Kyiv. Of course, not everyone has this opportunity. Salvation will be the nearest temple, which has a list, or an icon in your house.

Since the image is popular, finding a copy in the church shop is not difficult.

It is better to hang the icon in front of the entrance to the house or apartment. The Mother of God will protect home peace and relationships in the family, protect against quarrels and illnesses. If you can’t hang the icon in front of the entrance, then you can place it above the front door. In this case, the Queen of Heaven will affect not only you, but the people who enter your house. If their thoughts are pure, then being near you will be pleasant and useful. However, if a person brings evil to you and your family, then he will be uncomfortable in the house, he will try to leave as soon as possible.

Before hanging an icon in a particular place, you need to read a special prayer, ask for patronage and intercession. You should not place the icon next to electrical appliances, next to computers and TVs. If you put it on a shelf, then there should be nothing else besides the face. It is not necessary to place the icon in the iconostasis. Why is that? The Mother of God must see everyone who enters the house. The person entering must meet her eyes. Only then will she be able to protect your family and home.

In the Kiev Sophia Cathedral there is an amazing icon, which is made in the form of a mosaic. It's called The Unbreakable Wall. It depicts the Mother of God with her hands raised to the sky. The image is made on a gold background. Why is this icon called "Indestructible Wall"? Over the course of nine centuries of world history, events took place with the city and the cathedral that could lead to the destruction of the icon. She survived all the most difficult times for Christianity, and St. Sophia Cathedral is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To this day, the ancient description of the icon “Indestructible Wall”: “The growth of the Virgin is gigantic, like all Her deeds in Russia. She stands on a golden stone, the unshakable foundation of all who flow to her protection. Her tunic is of heavenly color, a scarlet belt and a lention hangs on it, with which She wipes away so many tears. Azure handrails on hands raised to the sky. A golden veil falls from Her head and is hung in the form of an omophorion on her left shoulder, on the sign of Her cover, a broad cloud, according to the voice of church songs. A bright star burns on the forehead of the Mother of God and two stars on the shoulders: for She herself, the Mother of the Unsetting Light, was for us the dawn of the Unsetting Sun.

There is also a legend according to which the capital city will not die as long as it is guarded by the "Indestructible Wall". On the arc of the semi-arch is a black mosaic with Greek letters. The inscription next to the icon reads “God is in the midst of her and will not move; God will help her in the morning in the morning”(Ps. 45:6).

It is believed that the icon "Indestructible Wall" owes its appearance to the vision of the elder Gabriel of the Savior-Eleazar desert. The elder saw a beautiful shining city on a hill, which can be reached by a wide road. People went to this city, not noticing that a giant was hunting for them. Then the elder went along a different path, a small path, but even there danger awaited him in the form of giant nets. And yet, on the small path, the nets could not capture a single person. Then the elder came to mind the words from the Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos: "Rejoice, Indestructible Wall of the Kingdom...". He immediately understood Who kept people on a narrow path, and along it he reached the shining city, where the Throne of the Lord itself was located.

An intercessor angel was sent quickly from God to You, Most Pure, to announce to You the joy of the world, as if you were pregnant from the Holy Spirit in the womb of Your God the Word, the Savior of the world. But we, leading the fulfillment of this annunciation, believe that the Lord is to Thee, Most Blessed, reveal the Indestructible Wall and protect us from all sin, troubles and misfortunes.
